The responsibility of generations currently alive to leave young and future generations a healthy environment is an essential component of the generational contract. Yet, in light of existential risks posed by climate change and other environmental crises, this is also where intergenerational conflicts seem the most pronounced. In this workshop – in partnership with Zukunft-Fabrik.2050 – participants will develop visions for the sustainability dimension of a New Generational Contract for the year 2050. How can generations take care of each other and safeguard a healthy environment together?
Education and learning empower the next generation to choose their path in life, be active citizens, and embrace the opportunities of the digital revolution. In light of rapid technological change and the need for more sustainable economic models, rethinking how and what we teach and learn is a key component of a New Generational Contract. In this workshop – in partnership with Zukunft-Fabrik.2050 – participants will develop visions for the education dimension of a New Generational Contract for the year 2050. How might we rethink education for the benefit of all generations?
Rather than enjoying upward social mobility, young people now often face worse economic prospects than their parents, particularly in terms of income, savings and housing. To ensure intergenerational fairness, finding ways to create equitable access to economic opportunities and life chances is therefore key. In this workshop – in partnership with Zukunft-Fabrik.2050 – participants will develop visions for the economic dimension of a New Generational Contract for the year 2050. How can we foster equitable economic opportunities across generations?
The pandemic is only the most recent and prominent example demonstrating that health care has important intergenerational dimensions. Similar to pension systems, many health care systems run on intergenerational transfers of resources so that everyone is protected in case of illness – no matter one's age. In this workshop – in partnership with Zukunft-Fabrik.2050 – participants will develop visions for the health dimension of a New Generational Contract for the year 2050. How should generations define their mutual responsibilities to ensure future health and well-being?
Emerging technologies – particularly various applications of AI – will significantly transform how we live in the year 2050. Yet, it’s up to us to shape how and for what purpose we aim to use technologies and what it means to be human for future generations. In this workshop – in partnership with Zukunft-Fabrik.2050 – participants will develop visions for the technology and innovation dimension of a New Generational Contract for the year 2050. How might we leverage innovation to address intergenerational tensions and shape a humane and responsible use of emerging technologies?
